Why This 98-Year-Old Has Written 7,000 Letters to Soldiers

Aileen Cooper began writing to military members during WWII. The 98-year old writes soldiers four-page individualized letters, each one different from the last.

In the past six years alone, she has written around 7,000 handwritten notes to men and women she has never even met. Some military members thank her by sending American flags or certificates from their army service.

Cooper’s family who has watched her write her letters are proud of her efforts, and Cooper has no desire to stop. “I’ve decided that I’m going to write for as long as I can,” she said.
