This Interactive Exhibit Takes Van Gogh’s Work to New Incredible Heights
There’s a new, larger-than-life method to completely dive into a beautiful painting and take in the colors and brush strokes, textures, history.
A French exhibit at the Carrières de Lumières–an art center located northwest of Marseille in Les Baux-de-Provence–is taking Vincent Van Gogh’s already stunning collection and amplifying his pieces in scale for a unique immersive experience for art lovers and curious folk alike.
The music and light display put visitors right into the wooden clogs of the famous Dutch artist, offering a unique and breathtaking view of some of his most renowned works.
The purpose of the exhibit is to make “the clouds, suns, and portraits, represented in the artist’s unique style, come to life on walls that are more than fifteen meters high, evoking the artist’s boundless, chaotic, and poetic interior world.
Via a thematic itinerary relating to the various phases of his life—his time spent in Arles, Paris, and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence—visitors will be immersed in his first works and those of his later years, from his sunny landscapes and night scenes to his portraits and still lifes.”
The center will display Van Gogh’s work on their 50-foot-high stone walls and cover 75,000 square feet, offering a whole new take on pieces like “Starry Night,” “Irises,” “Almond Blossom” and more.
