The Power of a Handwritten Love Letter Is Simply Heartwarming
With the rapid and unstoppable advance of technology in recent years, the age-old art of confessing one’s love in a handwritten note seems to slowly go out of style.
The comedy collective Improv Everywhere in partnership with Hallmark, decided to bring back a little nostalgia and set up a stage inManhattan’s Big Screen Plaza with a desk that read “Light Up Someone’s Holiday”.
On this desk they placed a pen and an assortment of beautiful greeting cards. One person would write the card and the person on the other side of the desk would have the pleasure of receiving a message of love.
As soon as the recipient of the card opens the envelope and starts reading, the words in the card magically appeared on a massive screen set up in the park, broadcasting the loving words into the world.
“Since the plaza doesn’t get a ton of foot traffic at night and we were shooting on a cold evening, we did a little bit of advance casting,” says theorganization’s website. “We put out a notice looking for people who wanted to surprise someone. The people we cast were just told they’d be writing a card that would eventually be seen publicly. This prevented people from writing anything they wanted kept private.”
“Other than that, the people we cast didn’t know anything else about what was going to happen. The people they were surprising were completely in the dark.”
Maybe handwritten letters are just about to make a comeback.
