TED Talk of the Week: How to Live to Be 100+
7 Apr 2015 | By Erica Jackson
What is the secret to longevity? Dan Buettner breaks down the research behind the elements that make for a long and happy life.
Dan Buettner, a National Geographic writer and explorer, set out to find out the optimal formula for longevity. He based his research on the Danish Twin Study that surmised that 90% of how long someone lives is based on their lifestyle. He put together a team and traveled the globe to find Blue Zones, areas where people live the longest, to discover which factors contribute to their long lives. He focuses on three diverse blue zones found in Sardinia, Italy, Okinawa, Japan and Loma Linda, California and discovered that the seniors share the same commonalities: healthy eating, physical exercise, social inclusion, relaxation, and a sense of purpose.
