6 World Leaders Who Stepped Up for Good Deeds Day

Global figures who joined the movement for doing good.

Over 1.5 million volunteers from around the world took part in International Good Deeds Day on April 10, 2016. Among them were various world leaders – all of whom believe in the power of positive action and spreading goodness. Online or offline in the real world, these six figures all stepped up to show their support for the global movement of doing good.

1. THE PRESIDENT OF PANAMA

Panama’s president, Juan Carlos Varela, took to Twitter to rally Panamanians to take part in International Good Deeds Day.

2. THE NEXT VICE PRESIDENT OF TAIWAN

Taiwan’s Vice President-Elect, Chien-jen Chen, and the Mayor of Kaohsiung City, Chu Chen, came together to ring in International Good Deeds Day at a celebration in Kaohsiung city.

3. THE MAYOR OF NEW YORK

Bill de Blasio made an appearance in Herald Square to cheer on good doers as they kicked off International Good Deeds Day.

4. THE FORMER PRESIDENT OF ISRAEL

Shimon Peres, Israel’s ninth president, spent his Good Deeds Day volunteering at a school for Arab and Jewish children in the city of Jaffa, Israel.

5. BILL GATES

Good Doer Bill Gates showed his support for International Good Deeds Day on Twitter.

6. THE PRESIDENT OF COSTA RICA

President Luis Guillermo Solís Rivera and the first lady, Mercedes Peñas Domingo, kicked off International Good Deeds Day in Costa Rica by planting trees, picking up litter, and clearing debris around theManuel María Aguilar River. The couple then headed to Alajuelita Central Park to distribute pamphlets about how to prevent the Zika Virus. Good on you, President Solís!
